Turnip, the soft plush toy
I wanted to handmake my nephew’s christmas gift, so when I looked at the scrap fabric I had randomly elected to take with me during my recent move, I saw that I had the right colours to make a turnip vegetable.
So that’s what I did :)
I began by creating a net pattern for the turnip shape, I then detailed this by adding the purple colour and lighter pink threaded details.
When sewing together the net, I decided to turn it inside out- I hadn’t ever tried this technique before but I can’t believe I’ve gone so long without doing this. It made the craft look so much neater and secure.
I wish I had continued this method up into the purple section but I was afraid of sewing too far and not being able to reverse the shape.
