Life Update and New Year Plans!

There's simultaneously been lots going on and very little going on in my life since I was last active on this site.

Active in a personal sense as opposed to an artistically professional sense I suppose.

I started an office job in Reading in September and have already moved house again since I moved to Basingstoke.

I've been learning to balance and manage the many prongs of adulthood. Not fun at all.

As things are hopefully settling into some kind of routine, I'm optimistic that the new year can bring with it some progress for my freelance art career.

I've got multiple things in the works already and so much planned across my practices.

As I work full-time, my availability for commisions and hired work is limited to weekends or (depending on the type of job) evenings.

This is unfortunate as I'd love to have more time for things I love, but needs must.

If you do have a project you want to discuss with me that you know will span more days than Saturday- Sunday, don't hesitate to contact me as I may be able to book time off work to cover this.

My brain is always churning away with ideas for new projects and features I can offer as an artist.

Below are some hints, summaries and hopes for projects in the coming year

'AIRTIME' Was the name of the two person play I made as part of my University degree. After some time had passed, I realised how similar the story is to an idea I’d had a few years back.

This year I would like to explore those two stories and decide how I want to merge or develop them further.

Watch this space for play extracts, comic panels and design illustrations !

Additionally to developing Airtime and it's related story, I'm keen to write and devise a whole new long form play.

As I am restricted by resources and team, this will aim to explore puppetry and non human characters.

This play will add to my Theatre portfolio with the main thematic colour: Warm Yellow.

In the summer of next year I'll be travelling abroad for a short while, during this holiday I plan to photograph my experiences, with a focus on street/documentary photography. From this I plan to curate and sell a photobook.

One of my main goals for 2024 is to attend art fairs as both a customer and stall holder, as such I'll be creating as many paintings as possible.

A secondary goal to attending art fairs, is to paint a series of landscape paintings, culminating in an exhibition. Either a professional exhibition hosted by an external gallery, or a personally funded and organised travelling exhibition.

As part of the plans I have for art stalls, and the products I'll sell there. I want to create a small collection of comic zines. Featuring characters of my youth as well as newer ideas.

I pursue multiple art practices, to varying degrees, but no one is less important than another.

Another goal of this year is to get myself a sewing machine. This will open up a world of opportunities both personally and professionally.

One of the first projects I'd like to try is making a 'tupperware sleeve' so that I can bring my lunch to work without it clanking against the metal or plastic bits and bobs that also go in my bag.

The craft side of my business will hopefully enjoy the limelight for a while as I venture into lino cut and cross stitch.

I have done cross stitch before but am looking forward to making my own designs and developing this skill.

Overall I'll be working on creating a refined and varied collection of products that I can take to art fairs and have available for sale on this website.

In addition to the less tangible aspects of my art practice such as performance and writing.

I hope more people find my website and chose to follow and support my Art, one of the best things about art is sharing it with others, and of course the more support I receive for my work, the more of it I’ll be able to do.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
